MTA PLATFORM REFIT

LED Smart retrofitted NYC subway platforms with high-efficiency LED tubes, cutting energy use and maintenance.
LED Smart collaborated with New York City Transit to undertake a large-scale retrofit of platform lighting across the subway system, delivering over 147,000 high-efficiency LED tubes in 48-inch and 72-inch formats (so far!). The project replaced a mix of high-output T12 and T8 fluorescent lamps, eliminating ballast losses and reducing connected load by more than 10 MW. Operating 24 hours a day, the new LED system is projected to save between 26,500 and 35,600 metric tons of CO₂ annually, while virtually eliminating relamping for 5–6 years. This conversion not only delivers substantial energy and maintenance savings, but also enhances platform visibility, safety, and reliability for millions of daily riders.
