Edmonton LRT Valley Line

5X2BLANK.png

TransEd LRT in Edmonton completed a full fleet retrofit with high-efficiency LED lighting, replacing over

1,100 fluorescent lamps across all Bombardier/Alstom Flexity Freedom vehicles.

The upgrade resulted in a daily energy savings of over 90 kWh, translating to approximately 33,500 kWh

saved annually. This change is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 15 tonnes per year, a

projected 78 tonnes over the average 5-year life span of the LED system.

By switching to LED, TransEd benefits from a low-maintenance, high-reliability solution, with full confidence

that the passenger lighting system will perform as expected.

In addition to energy and emissions savings, the new lighting has enhanced visibility, reliability, and system

efficiency for both operators and passengers, all while supporting Canadian-made technology.
